The Hardest-Working Metal on the Roof
A valley iron is the metal channel that runs down the join where two roof faces meet. Every drop of rain that lands on those two sections funnels into it, so it carries more water than anywhere else on the roof — and on top of that, leaf litter loves to collect there.
That constant flow and trapped debris rust the old irons through. When they go, water pours straight into the roof cavity, often hidden under the tiles and quietly rotting timber for months before a stain ever appears.

We lift the tiles along both sides of the valley, remove the old rusted iron, and fit a new valley the full length of the channel. Then the tiles go back and the whole thing is sealed so water runs cleanly down the valley and off the roof — not into the cavity.
We don't smear sealant over rust and call it done, because that just buys a few months. Replacing the valley properly is the only lasting fix, and it's what we'd do on our own roof.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on how many valleys need doing and their length, plus roof access. Because the tiles have to be lifted and re-laid either side, it's more involved than a surface repair. We measure it up and give you a clear price first.
Valley leaks often show as damp in the roof cavity or a stain some way from the valley itself. Rust streaks, pooling water, or leaf litter packed into the channel are all signs it needs a look.
Sealing over rust is a short-term patch — the rust keeps working underneath and the leak returns. Where a valley has rusted through, replacing it is the only proper fix.
If they need it, yes. We check the valleys on every restoration and inspection, and replacing a tired valley as planned work is far cheaper than fixing it plus water damage later.
